The Fullerton Hotel Singapore is a five-star luxury hotel located near the mouth of the Singapore River, in the Downtown Core of the Central Area, Singapore. It was originally known as the Fullerton Building, and also as the General Post Office Building.[1][2] The address is 1 Fullerton Square. The Fullerton Building was named after Robert Fullerton, the first Governor of the Straits Settlements (1826–1829).[3] Commissioned in 1924 as part of the British colony's centennial celebrations, the building was designed as an office building by Major P.H. Keys of Keys & Dowdeswell, a Shanghai firm of architects, which won the project through an architectural design competition.[4][5][6][7][8] The architectural firm also designed the Capitol Theatre, its adjoined Capitol Building and the Singapore General Hospital.[9]
Robert Fullerton (16 January 1773 – 6 June 1831) was a governor of Penang and also the first governor of Straits Settlements, appointed by the Colonial Office, London.
He was born in Edinburgh the son of William Fullerton of Carstairs and raised on Nicolson Street in the city's south side.[1] He was one of twelve children including his younger brother John Fullerton, Lord Fullerton.[2]His elder sister Elizabeth married William Fullerton Elphinstone, a director of the East India Company.[3] This influential connection probably contributed greatly to his career.

史上初めての米朝首脳会談をめぐって、北朝鮮側が高額な宿泊費を支払えない可能性が指摘される中、会談が行われるシンガポールの政府やノーベル平和賞を受賞した国際ＮＧＯが支援の用意があることを表明し、今後、具体的な調整が進められるものと見られます。
アメリカの有力紙「ワシントン・ポスト」は１日、関係者の話として、米朝首脳会談の際に、北朝鮮のキム・ジョンウン（金正恩）朝鮮労働党委員長らの高額な宿泊費を誰が支払うか結論が出ていないと伝えました。
北朝鮮は、外貨不足のため支援が必要だとしていて、アメリカ政府が費用を肩代わりすることを検討しているものの、これを北朝鮮が侮辱だと受け止める可能性があることなどから、難しいとの見方が出ていると指摘しています。
こうした中、会談が行われるシンガポールのウン・エンヘン国防相は「歴史的会談で小さな役割を果たすために負担をしてもかまわない」と述べ、政府として支援を行う用意があることを明らかにしました。
また、去年、ノーベル平和賞を受賞した国際ＮＧＯのＩＣＡＮ＝核兵器廃絶国際キャンペーンは「核兵器の禁止と廃絶に向けた取り組みへの貢献として、宿泊費を支払う用意がある」とツイッターに投稿し、ノーベル賞の賞金も利用するなどして、支援することを申し出ました。
米朝首脳会談まで９日と迫る中、会談の実現に向けて関係国や民間団体も含めて、今後、具体的な調整が進められるものと見られます。
